POTHOLE LESSON

I fell in a pothole, it felt so natural that I could’ve just stayed there. I didn’t get hurt, that was the tricky part. It was on the grass, that was another trick. It was raining real hard and there was flooding everywhere so to prevent swimming to get out of my predicament I went walking through the train tracks to get to public transportation. One minute I was above the earth walking and the next, I had one whole leg swallowed inside the earth. Get this though, it was not muddy inside the pothole. It had been raining for over an hour and cars had to drive super slow in parking lot to prevent damaging their cars and to find escape. I thought I was at an advantage the cars didn’t have, from this rain I won’t develop a rust. My organs are well protected and beyond rain reach, I thought. Although I tied a plastic bag to each shoe to keep them dry as I battled fierce weather to get to the bus stop as the umbrella wasn’t enough; before even falling in the pothole, before leaving the parking lot, less than half a mile away from the starting point my shoes had already been drenched in rain water from flood crossing. The bag around the shoes no longer had purpose but I kept it on for two more hours as I traveled to get home to dryness. I tied the bag again, an attempt to keep my shoes dry still though it’s been sloshing already thinking there might be more puddles, floodings or the likes ahead. My mind kept going back to the pothole all the while, how something so dangerous that could’ve caused damage to ankle, knee, leg, hip to me felt so comfortable. I need no one to remind me this, someone caught me as I went down and it was the Divine hand of God! When battling arthritis, rheumatism and such, falling in a pothole is a major deal. I can’t overlook it. What could’ve been a bigger issue got smoothed over because He who watches Israel neither slumber nor sleeps. Through faith God caught me! He’s there at each smart or foolish decision we make to help, support, deliver and carry us. I finally took off the plastic bag when I was close to reaching my destination because the weather had cleared completely. I looked foolish to the people on the bus with plastic bags up to my knees but none of that phased me because they haven’t been where I’ve been, haven’t gone through what I have, and no one questioned me openly so I had no reason to explain. I just kept doing my thing, focusing on my situation to complete my journey. I overlooked the glares, the facial expressions, the smirks, the insinuations, appearance disapprovals, and just focused! Often times in life we lose focus due to these distractions and end in wasting precious time. If it’s not informative, life threatening, ordered, commanded, or imposed don’t stop on your journey to achieving success. Accomplish your goal first then if you must, review what got your curiosity! The pothole wasn’t the only curious happening but it sure left an impact as it represents many obstacles in life that could hinder someone’s path to greatness. Take note and apply it well at better living. Your journey is happening, make it count for others as well as for you!
